Our research unit is dedicated to conducting national and international projects, with 13 ongoing initiatives addressing topics such as energy efficiency, circularity, and the development of resilient buildings and cities - supported by digitalization and ICT innovations in the built environment.
Position overview
As a junior or mid-stage researcher, you will support the transformation of the European building sector towards sustainability - addressing environmental, economic, and social dimensions. As a researcher, you will have the opportunity to work with DEMO's professionals in consultancy and software units gaining real-world consultancy experience and incorporating innovative software solutions into your research. Responsibilities
Research Design and Execution:
- Contribute to the successful execution of defined tasks within the project's scope. Example areas include SRI, BIM, Digital Twin, Digital Logbook, Renovation Passports, Digital Product Passport (DPP), Life Cycle Costing, among others
- Conduct experiments, collect data, and analyze results while managing real demonstrations
Project Management:
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams internally and externally
- Conduct project dissemination activities
- Manage project timelines, deliverables, and milestones
Innovation and Technology Integration:
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in sustainable building technologies and methodologies
- Integrate innovative solutions into research projects and contribute to the improvement and development of DEMO's services and IT products
Reporting and Exploitation of Results:
- Prepare clear and concise reports, and presentations for both internal and external stakeholders
- Contribute to thematic clusters such as SRI and energy efficiency within the Research unit
- Interpret research findings and communicate insights for the development of key exploitable results
Collaboration and Networking:
- Leverage expertise from different units to ensure comprehensive project outcomes
- Engage with industry experts, academic partners, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration and exchange of knowledge
- Represent and promote the project and DEMO through relevant platforms and events
Acquisition:
- Contribute to the acquisition of new research projects by participating in proposal writing
Qualifications and Skills
- Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Civil Engineering, Architecture, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Information Systems and Technology etc.)
- Demonstrated experience in research, particularly in areas related to sustainable built environment
- Develops and implements scientific and applied research method
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Market-oriented mindset and interest in result exploitation in collaboration with the consultancy unit
- Good project management and organizational abilities
- Effective communication skills in English, both written (for reporting) and verbal
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Good level of knowledge om Building Information Modeling (BIM), Digital Twin technology, energy efficiency, and the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI)
- Familiarity with Horizon Europe, Life or other EU-funded research programs is a plus
- Familiarity with ICT concepts is a plus
- Knowledge of the Dutch language is a plus; otherwise, a commitment to learn it is expected
