Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland

Heritage management in motion

Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland is the central knowledge and network organization that supports heritage institutions, volunteers, the province, and municipalities in preserving, utilizing, and experiencing cultural heritage in Zuid-Holland.
Monumentenwacht Zuid-Holland is part of Erfgoedhuis. It conducts inspections and provides maintenance and sustainability advice to monument managers and owners, using the RE Suite for Monuments.
In addition, Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland focuses on supporting the broad heritage field, from archaeology to windmills and from intangible heritage to museum collections. It provides advice on repurposing, digitizing collections, public outreach, participation, and education.
Stable software for monument inspection
The implementation of RE Suite for Monuments offered Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland a solution to the challenges it faced with its outdated software. The previous application was no longer supported, resulting in instability and unreliability. The choice for RE Suite stemmed from the positive experiences of colleagues in teh provence of Noord-Brabant and the belief that uniform software would strengthen collaboration between provinces. Five provinces are now using the same application, and a joint working group has been established to continuously improve the software. According to Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland, the added value of the collaboration lies primarily in the excellent support, practical brainstorming sessions, and the rapid response to requests for assistance.
3D Virtual Models with Tags for Churches
DEMO created 3D Virtual Models for the "Oude en Nieuwe Kerk" in Delft, which are accessible to the administrators of these locations within RE Suite. Both churches have posted the models on their websites, allowing visitors to take a virtual tour of the historic buildings.

Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland organized the "Church+Interior" competition, where churches could win a 3D-virtual environment of their buildings. DEMO performed these scans and made the models available. Within each model, tags can be added to locations within the building to discover more about its history.
 Future and further development
The collaboration between DEMO and Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland is pleasant and smooth, with ideas for further usability being seriously considered and implemented where possible. Although 3D-modeling is not currently being used for standard inspections, the team is looking forward to using the iPad for re-inspections in the future.

A future ambition is to also be able to create budgets and multi-year maintenance plans within RE Suite, with accurate and up-to-date cost indicators specific to monuments. This integrated functionality adds even more value to the use of the software for Erfgoedhuis and the Monumentenwacht Zuid-Holland and further optimize their work processes.
