Insiter is about: Intuitive Self-Inspection Techniques using Augmented Reality for construction, refurbishment and maintenance of energy-efficient buildings made of prefabricated components
The INSITER project proposal was composed by DEMO Consultants, also the project coordinator. The research is being conducted with the Dutch partners SBRCURnet, ISSO and DWA. Foreign key partners are involved from Ipostudio Architetti Srl and the University of Delle Marche, Italy, FraunhoferGesellschaft and Hochtief Vicon, Germany, Dragados and Fundacion Cartif from Spain and LMS International NV from Belgium.
INSITER aims to eliminate the gaps in quality and energy-performance between design and realisation of energy-efficient buildings based on prefabricated components. The key innovation of INSITER is the intuitive and cost-effective Augmented Reality that connects the virtual model and the physical building in real-time. INSITER will develop a new methodology for self-instruction and self-inspection by construction workers, subcontractors, component suppliers, and other stakeholders during on-site working processes, supported by a coherent set of hardware and software tools.
INSITER has chosen self-instruction and self-inspection for a number of reasons:
- By activating the construction worker immediately, the quality check is payable;
- By self-instruction, the construction worker knows what is required of him and what can go wrong;
- Through self-inspection, potential mistakes have been immediately checked and the error can thus immediately be corrected, without consequential damage and without unnecessary loss of time.
