Ben Rutten (1957) works at DEMO Consultants as an associate consultant for the EU research project SAFEWAY. He studied mechanical engineering at TU/e (1982) and obtained his PhD at TUD as a transport engineer (1995). Ben Rutten is passionate about new innovations in sustainable transport and ICT in transport. He has almost 40 years of experience in managing transport and traffic innovation projects in the R&D domain at both public and private organizations. He worked for commercial consultancy firms in the field of sustainable energy (CE Delft), ICT and telematics (CGI) in the field of traffic management systems; he worked as programme manager for sustainable transport systems at Rijkswaterstaat and worked for navigation supplier TomTom as program-, product- and line-manager on routing and traffic information technologies. He is an active member of a number of working groups related to European research themes. He is a jury member of the Intertraffic Innovation Award and of the MobilityLab Innovation Challenge. Ben Rutten works on creative future-oriented research in a holistic way without losing sight of the practical implementation. He also works at TU/e as Director Program Board of the Eindhoven AI Systems Institute (EAISI).
